On August 11 two year-old Minnesota girls got the thrill of their young lives when they met Elvis at Graceland. Paul, they had worked for a year to afford their trip to Memphis. They found Elvis hiding behind a tree on the front lawn. Ten days later, on August 21, Elvis purchased two stone lions to be placed at the sides of the steps leading up to the house. That same day he saw a carload of teenagers drive away after grabbing six lawn chairs off the Graceland grounds.
Jumping in one of his own cars, Elvis chased the six thieves for several miles before forcing their car to the side of the road. He returned to Graceland on September The next morning the Graceland gates were locked because gatekeeper Uncle Travis was in the hospital.
