Antique Cars. Track Ride. Junior Pirate Ship. So easy!! Honestly though, that thing was a lifesaver. I dont understand how people could go to the park without it. We rode Kingda Ka twice in less then 20 minutes while the other people in the regular lines waited 3 hours just to ride it once. I mean its expensive dont get me wrong but it was so worth it!!! We got on all the roller coasters like times throughout the day with a waiting time of max minutes tops. It's the fastest and tallest in North America, of course thats why we came!!
It's intense, crazy fast, and the height and drop are incredible!!! Batman the Ride: awesome coaster with speed 80mph and tons of cork screws that fip you all over the place Nitro: What an awesome first drop!!! Lots of air time!!! Loved it!! Even though it didn't go upside down, it was great!!
Superman: Coaster where you lay on your stomach and ride. Insane loop where you go through it on your back!!! Pretty good speed too. Bizaro: Was ok. Not one of my favs. A little boring. Kinda reminded me of the Griffin at Busch Gardens.
Same style. Only the Griffin has a better drop and better speed. Green Latern: Stand up coaster. Not a fan. It was the most uncomfortable thing ever. The ride itself was fun but the seating, not so much. Only did it once. Skull Mountain and The Dark Knight are both indoor, in the dark coasters. The Dark Knight is more of a kiddie ride and is basically a Wild Mouse style coaster.
Drops, ok speeds, but thats about it. El Toro is the absolute best wooden coaster I have ever been on. That thing is fast for a woodie. Not to mention the awesome first drop!!
Rolling Thunder we never got a chance to do since we kept gettting on all the other ones again and again. But it reminded me of Lightening Racer or Rebel Yell wooden ones where you have 2 dueling tracks that race one another. This place is a coaster park.
Not much rides if you dont like coasters. I mean they do have some kiddie rides and other stuff there but I can't really comment on that since we only went for the coasters. Technical Issues: I saw this a lot in other people's reviews and I wanted to comment on it now that I experienced it first hand. Some coasters did shut down during the day but they re-opened in less then 20 minutes.
A lot of times, they were adding more trains to the track so naturally that is to be expected. Kingda Ka closed a lot during the day since we found out that it has to be almost perfect weather, no wind, etc for people to ride.
It seemed like it was running more as the sun went down. The good thing about my flash pass was it was sent me a notification if they closed a ride and so on. Alot of times if they closed a coaster, they almost immediately opened it back up maybe 10 min later. So for people to complain about technical issues just boggles my mind. Food: Went to Granny's to get a snack and some beers. Not bad price either for all the stuff you get.
The sweet fire chicken and honey walnut shrimp were pretty good with chow mein. We had a fantastic day!!! Definitely will be back again maybe in the fall. Possibly for the Fright Nights. Not big on coming here during the summer months though. Awesome day!! Get the flash pass no matter what day you come!!! Karen Canterbury, UK contributions. However when we arrived at opening times our first queue for the Superman ride was 1.
Then next queue we joined was going to be 2 hours and we worked out that without the Fast pass we would spend most of our time waiting in queues and get to do very few rides. We therefore bought a fast pass. However the booked times were good, usually around 30 minutes from booking. The standard Fast pass, in effect, just queues for you.
We looked at this and found that to use it for El Toro we would be able to book a time 3 hours ahead the current queue length but not book any rides in the meantime.
This would have left us in a similar position, only being able to do a few rides, but would have saved the actual queuing so if you are interested in playing on the side shows it may be worth it. At the end of the evening queues improved but were still 1 hour on some popular rides. We heard people complaining that they had been at the park for 8 hours and only managed two rides. No doubt we were there on a busy day but we still were left feeling pretty unhappy at the costs. The rides are good and seem well looked after.
We have teenagers and they had a great day, as did we. There is plenty for the whole family from extreme to rides suitable for children. Queues were not well managed and rides were frequently departing with 10 or more empty seats as there was no attempt to manage groups, seat single riders etc. Queues were also not well signposted, it was easy to spend some time waiting in line for a front seat for example when we could have pushed through and joined another line for a less popular seat.
Food is all fast food as you would expect but again incredibly slow service. In summary, the rides are great and it is a good day out, be prepared for the prices, if it turns out to be busy when you are there the only hope is to pay extra for Fast passes. We did one ride in our first 4. We really enjoyed our day but were left with a slightly annoyed feeling at the poor organisation, haphazard queue management and costs.
Great Adventure Lost and Found Department is horrible. My daughter 12 years old lost her phone riding Superman ride. We could see the phone but cine the park was about to close they would not get it fo rus. We filed a claim with lost and found as directed and received a claim number. I have called three times in the past week and still no call back. I have emailed guest services and still no attention to my problem.
Since then I have heard form two others that have expereinced this same level of horrible service. Beware of automatic charges to your credit card EVEN after your membership ends! In fact your membership never ends if you don't cancel it on their website! The membership is for lifetime! They never end your membership. You think you bought it only for one year. They automatically renew your membership for another year without your knowledge and continue charging your card.
Even if you cancel your your credit card they give you to a collector. Even when you want to cancel your membership they say they will charge your credit card two more times because they need 45 days prior notice!
The answer to your question can be determined simply by asking yourself: What time are you planning on arriving to the park? The park opens at AM, which means you need to plan to be at the gate by 10AM you will need to pick up your Flash Pass inside the park after the park actually opens, which kinda sucks, but it is what it is. This is what we did on a Friday morning and we were able to get through and ride all 15 thrill rides never waiting any more than 5 minutes at the worst!
If this is the case, buy the Platinum flash pass. So, with all of that context addressed, here is what we thought of the event. Great Adventure has a large and varied event. This means that they offer several types of houses and scares, which keeps the haunt fresh and interesting and probably appeals to a wider variety of guests. Wicked Woods was easily our favorite maze of the night. The atmospherics, especially the lighting, were incredibly creepy; the cast was the strongest that evening, employing a variety of scare tactics; and the sets were detailed and well-designed.
While some do not like gimmicks, for us this 3D house and mirror maze provided unusual experiences and different approaches to scares. The Manor was a traditional theme park haunted house with classic jump and stalking scares, but it felt well-staffed with creative and enthusiastic actors. With an event that large, however, there are inevitably problems. Without a doubt the most frustrating aspects of the event for us were the logistics.
At the entrance to every single house, we encountered a mob of confused guests, arguing with security and the groupers. No one seemed to know where the regular and express lines were, and the queues tended to back up onto the paths.
Despite having Express, our waits were very long, especially for houses like Reflections of the Dead, which required large gaps between groups. We also thought that the park seemed overextended and probably would have been better off with fewer houses and scare zones. We also found the atmospherics fairly weak in all of the scare zones. The bright lights and loud noise prevented them from engendering any kind of terror.
