Twice upon a time, I decided to try for that recipe - once during Cataclysm, and once again at the end of MoP. After hours and hours of soul-crushing disappointment, I realized I could just by the vial of the sands off the AH for an extra 10k gold over my estimated price of the raw materials, and be done with it forever. I gave up after that then just bought the Vial on the AH.
I think it took me about 5 months of constantly doing digs on Kalimdor to get them to reset in Uldum. I just know I had Uldum memorized and did not have to open the map to find places after awhile. I had a friend who gave up looking for the recipe and just bought the mount on the AH before I started playing.
I have more patience lol I still need the bug mount though so I may have to go back for round 2. Not sure if any came after I got the recipe perhaps 1 as I did a few sites and traded in the crates for pieces after I had it. I think for me it was getting the jar to pop up in 1st place that took the most time.
Edit update: Posting in this thread re-ignited my drive to get the recipe, and I got it yesterday, opening my 19th canopic jar! I think I got it on my alchemist after a couple months in WoD. So i unlocked this on my Paladin way back when it first came out, made the mount, then later i deleted that paladin to make a Goblin Warrior….
I already have the mount but if i could still make the dang thing… Sigh. Just had to keep digging. And digging. You will find it :D. Comment by I found it amusing the text for the archeology reads He apparently died only a few years into what was hoped would be a glorious reign.
Comment by Alright I'm sure I'll eventually get it, but man this is time-consuming. I have Alchemy and Archy. Happy farming and hope you guys are luckier, but be aware that these jars are not guarantees that you will get the recipe.
It is bop so make sure you are farming it on an Alchemist. I'll update if I get the recipe. Edit: still no recipe, I've completed 15 jars now. Comment by I'll update if I get the recipe. Comment by I find my first jar and was so excited to open it up. But it only contained junk.
I was so disappointed that I stopped doing archeaology for more than a month. Then one day I decided to give it another try.
I found my 2nd jar and, not expecting to get anything, I left the jar in my bag for several hours while I was farming herbs. Finally I opened the jar and I got the recipe! So, don't give up hope. It can even drop in the 2nd jar or maybe it might take a bit longer. And now it's made me rich. I've made at least 75, gp in just two and a half weeks. Comment by So i've made a nice little spreadsheet, easy to read ty google docs. It shows all the drop rates, gold made, spawns..
Comment by Trying to get the recipe. I can probably dig a site and get to a new one in 5 minutes avg. That means that about every 20 minutes I should have 1 Tolvir dig. That gets me about 13 fragments avg per 20 minutes. So that's an avg of 6 hours running around digging per solve higher for rares and lower for commons of course. That is then 0. That's solves on average to get recipe or hours or 71 days.
Lol, maybe I am wrong. Freaking crazy. Have a peek. So my above post isn't so great because rare fragments are not repeated apparently. Here's a better model maybe. A round is where you solve all the artefacts in the set. Now to find out how much it takes to get a jar on average. If rares spawn only once, it will take an average of hours if all my parameters are close. Comment by outdorzy1 Just got Vial of Sands recipe First Tol'vir site at lvl found 2 keystones along the way got the recipe at lvl Next fossil solve is Fossilized hatching, and have made some not bad gold with some other things solved along the way.
Will be leveling archeology on other toons too Comment by Xiros can u do the same artifacts more then once in archaeology? Comment by I am not trying to make anyone mad with this post just showing that the random number generation is completely random and that this recipe can be on someone's last jar that they ever make or on their first jar that they ever make. Mouseover of the Tiny Oasis Mosaic crafted showing that its time of creation was after that of the Canopic Jar i Comment by Is there a way to get Tol vir acrh areas to appear more often, or anywhere else to farm them beside uldum?
Comment by Eighjan So; the long and the short of this is; don't waste your time with Tol'vir Archaeology too much if you're not an Alchemist? Comment by Sillicis Patch 4. Players will not be able to collect additional fragments until they complete artifacts to take them down below fragments.
Players with more than fragments will not lose additional fragments in 4. Do digsites stop spawning if you reach the hard cap? Or are you just unable to collect them?
If digsites of that particular race would just stop spawning. Farming Tol'vir would be a lot easier. Comment by I just completed my first canopic jar to get the achievement The Boy Who Would Be King and opened it to get the recipe and mummified organs! Just need to start getting gold now! Comment by 9dad I have similar characters on different shards with Alchemy. On Dunemaul I got the recipe on the first jar I found.
On Hyjal, I got the recipe on the 11th jar. Comment by RasSanko Guess im pretty lucky then. Ive skilled up archaeology in 2 days now just to get the Vial of Sands recipe and I got it on my first Canopic Jar! Was at skill also. I didnt get a whole lot of tol'vir digs for a while. I read some of the comments on here and quickly got discouraged. On only my third Canopic Jar it actually dropped for me.
So don't get frustrated if it doesnt drop for a while, I'm pretty sure the drop rate is a lot higher than WoWhead actually accounts it as. Comment by The recipe from this jar is all about luck. I'm an alchemist, have bought the vial of the AH and become a sandstone drake, but want the recipe to be able to make and sell vials for profit. Comment by paul what do i do if im not an alchemist So you can grind while you grind while you grind.
Comment by Gero11 I've gotten three tol'vir rares so far, including the scarab mount, and I'm still hunting for this After that amount of archeology solving, it seems that a new title is warranted from Blizzard: "Professor Emeritus," which is usually granted to accomplished, retired professors. Comment by noroha i decided to leve up archeologhy bcs of this drake.
Comment by This is a huge grind, i have completed 35 common tol'vir artifacts with only one being the canopic jar. During my grinding however, i have found the reins of the grey camel, so that's a plus. Hopefully some more jars soon, as im losing it a bit out of frustration. Good luck all. Will post here again. Good luck.. Comment by I've completed all the rares for Tol'vir yup got the mount! Only missing the Dwarf staff and Troll 2H to have received all rares.
Bit discouraged at this recipe drop rate as you get your hopes up for every jar you come across Those who get on their first few times Update: 82 jar solves and nothing total, tol'vir solves but you're absolutely right, the very least one gets out of this is gold. Lots and lots of gold. I could easily buy the mount from someone, but I'll feel cheated :P. For me anyways, even if you get the recipe on your first jar, you probably don't have enough gold to make it, some of you might have the gold, but most of us won't.
Grind for atleast all the achievements and thereafter if you have the gold, just buy the mount. Sure there is a guildie which will ask no money if you give him the mats. And given the guild discount it will be a lot cheaper. The gold whilst grinding this mount with archaeology aren't too bad, so grind the mount, get the gold with farming this, if you don't get the recipe, at least you will have the gold. My idea anyways. Tolvir common solves now 63, 6 jars, 0 recipies. Good luck. This is it!
Dumb as hell in my opinion. I've been grinding forever to get the mount on my main and I'm almost positive it will never happen. There's no way in hell I'm gonna grind archaeology this high on another toon after this nightmare grind.
And for the record I have 7 wasted canopic jars so far. Remove the BoP! Comment by Pops Okay, stupid question My Alchemy and Archaeology are topped off and I've been getting dig sites in Uldum. So far I've completed 5 common artifacts but no rares. Could I start getting them any time? Update: Right after I posted this, I got my first jar, which contained what I'm sure will be the first of many mummified remains I solved both of them before opening one because I was curious as to whether or not you can have more than one of these in your inventory; it turns out that you can.
The first one I opened and second one overall had the recipe in it. First time I've ever been that lucky getting a rare anything! And yes first canopic jar second tolvir dig a recipe! Just a matter of lucky but still! Comment by Paes Can anybody confirm whether banking a Canopic Jar prevents further jars from dropping?
I found my first jar, banked it, and haven't been able to build a second jar, despite having completed at least 30 other Tol'Vir artifacts. Is that just bad luck, or do I need to open the jar before I can build another? I see from a few comments that others claim to have banked multiple jars, but just looking for some reassurance. Comment by This has gotten frustratingly harder to farm since patch 5. This means that instead of just farming a digsite to get past it and get a Tol'Vir digsite instead you actually have to stop and solve artifacts.
While seemingly small, this is a decent amount of additional time spent solving instead of farming. Yes it means you get twice as much when you do get a Tol'Vir dig, but you get far more "Other" than you do Tol'Vir so it does not average out. There's a number of new digsites that you won't have in Gatherer, meaning you spend a lot of time discovering new nodes which takes longer than known nodes.
Yes xpac is around the corner, but for the love of god I'm tired of having my hopes dashed each time I open a jar! Comment by I have alchemy and have opened 43 jars with no recipe. Beyond frustrated. Any suggestions will help. The recipe dropped on my 46th jar. A lot of work farming let me tell you.
Comment by BoroTuralyon I'm 0 for 19 so far on the recipe on canopic jars. The "easy" rares to get are the ring and the scarab not the mount, the other rare.
I got my claw pet around the time I completed my 65th or 70th tol'vir solve. I try to keep my digsites at south kalimdor, because I have easy ports to uldum from sw and dalaran to tanaris and sometimes Theamore for the dustwallow and south barrens points.
Most of the digs I do are in tanaris, ungoro, and uldum. Sometimes I get a bad spurt and have to go to azshara, winterspring, desolace, feralas, and other "out of the south area" areas. I'm not giving up on this, I'm doing this on my mage Makeumysheep in turalyon realm. Each time there is a "red blotch" you get 6 digs and they range from 5x to 9x with a chance at a green that gives you 12x Comment by Versapious This I found was the best way for me to spawn Uldum dig sites: 1.
Kept hearth at Hyjal's start point to quickly get to most northern dig sites. Average run from north to south would spawn 3 dig sites in Uldum. This only happened half the time though and usually a short flight north. When 3 dig sites spawned in Uldum I would go there and dig unless the 4th dig site was close to Uldum; I would then dig it up sometimes spawning the 4th site in Uldum. Got the recipe on the 5th Canopic jar lucky but I kept at it for the rares. Again this was the easiest way to get digs for ME in Uldum, I've heard that one should dig Uldum sites immediately upon spawn but I just don't see that as effective.
Good luck everyone! My advice: don't get tunnel vision, do other things after awhile and give yourself a break or you could burn youself out and lose interest in all aspects of the game. I was fortunate enough to get it on my Nelf DK Trouillefou on Uldaman after 51 Tol'vir artifacts, 6 of those being canopic jars, giving myself breaks in between before I got overfrustrated and only heading to Uldum when I had a good 3 or 4 digsites out there.
For those who decide to give up or get dispirited after only 3, bear in mind it's a low droprate so unless you're among the lucky few, it will take awhile. This takes time and persistence. I for one don't mind that this recipe is BoP, it made finding it myself all the more rewarding. However, Blizz probably should've made it so it only dropped if you had alchemy to spare those who got it on non-alchemists the frustration.
Like many rare drops in game, I'm sure the droprate listed is more or less only an approximation, not a guaranteee, and is entirely random. Some may be fortunate enough to get it from their first canopic jar, others after numerous other artifacts and digging through countless mummified organs.
Patience and persistence, friends Comment by wannabeabear Bought frags from Bran Bronzebeard the archaeology guy in the mogashan palace. First thing i solved was a Canopic Jar with the recipe and an organ. Alchemy was maxed at and got it on first go. Comment by Also one of the seemingly lucky ones. Solved it and the resulting Jar, first I'd ever opened, had the recipe. Comment by Mormolyce My kingdom for a canopic jar Comment by oscarucb Never dig naked!
Archaeology Helper addon makes the process significantly faster! So if you have the worst of luck, it'll take 50 canopic jars, hey, maybe more! I haven't even gotten a single canopic jar just got arch to and I'm dreading trying this. Movie info. Explore Wikis Community Central. Register Don't have an account? Canopic Jar. Edit this page.
